SPECIAL COMMISSION MEETING WILL DISCUSS ISSUES REGARDING SCHOOL DEPUTY

(07/15/2009)
The Calhoun Commission has set a special meeting for 9 a.m. Thursday to review problems related to the hiring of a deputy sheriff by Sheriff Allen Parsons to provide services to Calhoun Middle-High School.

The grant was developed by Shari Johnson, with the Calhoun Commission submitting the application for the Prevention Resource officer.

The commission, at last weeks meeting, unanimously declined to approve the hire because the grant that funds the hiring has yet to be approved.

The commission applied for the grant with the stipulation that the hire would be considered if it was funded.

Sheriff Parson's has reinstated former law officer Charles McCroskey for the in-school position, saying he did so because the officer was required to attend a training program that is now being given.

Parson's told Calhoun's Deputy Civil Service Board "that all three of his current deputies had declined the position."
