West Virginia families need to apply for some $40 million available in federal grant money in outreach programs whose children aren't enrolled in Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program, according to Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va.
Applications can be downloaded at the grants.gov Web site.
"The expanded CHIP promises to give millions of uninsured children the care they need and deserve," Rockefeller said this week.
"Intensive, targeted outreach is essential to guaranteeing that every child who is eligible for CHIP gets enrolled. I truly hope that qualified state, local, faith-based and civic organizations in West Virginia will apply for these important funds."
"It will take all of us working together to be sure no child slips through the crack," he said.
Electronic applications are due by Aug. 6. Those sent by mail will be accepted through Aug. 10. Grants will be awarded Sept. 30.
