A new National Guard armory is scheduled to be built in Jackson County, funded with $19.54 million from the federal government.
The National Guard facility at Spencer will be closed.
Mark Whitley, executive director of the Jackson County Development Authority, said the facility is a 62,000-square-foot Spencer-Ripley Armed Forces Readiness Center.
The center will be at Millwood on land the West Virginia Army National Guard recently acquired on West Virginia 2 between Ripley and Ravenswood.
The center includes a community complex that can be used by various groups and organizations.
Whitley said ground breaking is set for October.
No announcement has been made regarding how the old armory might serve the Roane County community.
