The Bear Fork Hunting Club's annual "Critter Dinner" was held at the Arnoldsburg
Community Building last night, with a huge crowd attending the affair. The hunting
club has the event for their members, their families and friends in the community.
The menu, besides deer meat, usually includes such wild meat delicacies as bear,
moose, "possum," groundhog and squirrel, plus a dab of rattlesnake meat. Beyond the
main entrees, great country cookin' items and deserts fills the tables for about 300
folks who attend the annual event.

performers.
The Bear Fork Hunting Club has a history going back to the late 1800's, with many of
the original traditions continuing into the 21st century. The large wilderness area,
once covering about 18,000 acres, is situated in Calhoun, Gilmer and Braxton
counties.

Despite a major timbering operation shortly after 1900, when a half-dozen or so mills
made barrel staves to be hauled by a special railroad to the Elk River, and an oil and
gas boom later in the 20th century - it is still a pristine place, filled with natural
beauty and wildlife.
The hunting club has about 300 members.
