'SMASH AND RUN' INCIDENTS ON PARKED CARS - Culprits Committed Crimes During County Events

(06/06/2009)
Culprits struck nine Calhoun vehicles Saturday.

Grantsville Police Chief Charles Stephens said at least six vehicles have been broken and entered Saturday evening during Wood Festival festivities.

Three other vehicles in southern Calhoun have also been entered sometime today at the Arnoldsburg Community Park, the Upper West Fork Riding Club and the Upper West Fork Park, where a bluegrass event was being held.

Stephens said five of the Grantsville vehicles were parked along Rt. 5, just east of the four-way intersection at the Grantsville bridge.

The other vehicle was reportedly parked on or near west Main Street.

A list of items stolen from the vehicles was not available.

"All the Grantsville incidents were smash and run," said Chief Stephens.

The incidents happened in daylight in public view.

Stephens said if anyone observed unusual behavior around the vehicles, they should call him.

The Calhoun Sheriff's Department is investigating the southern Calhoun incidents.
