The carnival has returned to the 47th Calhoun County Wood Festival, in Grantsville.

While carnivals and circuses are fading in most small communities, there has likely been such an event in the county for over 100 years.

Grantsville and Arnoldsburg carnivals and circuses used to draw huge crowds, with full-fledged shows, often more than once a year.

Grantsville's customary spot was what is now Wayne Underwood Field.

Arnoldsburg used the nice bottom land near Speedy Mart and other outfits used the Molasses Festival site.

The Wood Festival carnival has become the mainstay event for the attraction during the past 47 years.
