Calhoun Middle-High School got some encouraging news this week regarding a multitude of problems that surfaced during two audits done by the state, one in 2007 and another in 2008.
Calhoun Superintendent of Schools Roger Propst said "Dr. Kenna Seal (Director of the Office of Education Performance Audits) told Principal Karen Kirby that he had seen significant improvement in all areas."
The school has been operating under temporary accreditation.
"He further
stated that teachers had lesson plans, varying instructional strategies
were observed in the classrooms, students were engaged in the learning
process, and students were respectful and well behaved," Propst said.
Dr. Seal was accompanied on the review by Carroll Staats, retired Jackson Co.
superintendent.
Propst said Seal summed up his
visit by saying, "This is not the same school referenced in the November
2007 audit."
Propst said "A written report will be sent to us in the near future."
"We have more hills
to climb, but I am very pleased we have made this good start," he concluded.
Earlier reports cited CM-HS for having problems in achievement, curriculum, student and school performance and leadership, recognizing "the urgency for change."
