CABOT OIL AND GAS CLOSING CHARLESTON HEADQUARTERS

(05/29/2009)
A name well-known to most Calhoun residents, Cabot Oil and Gas, announced yesterday it's closing its West Virginia offices by the end of the summer.

About 40 employees will be affected.

Cabot said it's planning to open a regional office in Pittsburgh to oversee operations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the Rocky Mountains.

CEO Dan Dinges says more than half the workers affected by the changes will be transferred.

The Charleston Gazette reported 25 Cabot employees have been asked to move and 15 will lose their jobs.

Cabot says it is trying to become more efficient and better positioned to drill in the Marcellus Shale, a vast gas deposit deep under parts of New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
