Jennie Lou Meek, 77, of Albany, Ohio, passed away Saturday evening, May 23, 2009, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains, Ohio.
Born Dec. 23, 1931, in Calhoun County, W.Va., the daughter of the late William and Lucile Hines Alkire.
A graduate of Belpre High School, she attended Ohio University. Jennie was a switchboard telephone operator for G.T.E., St. Joseph's Hospital and the Athens Mental Health Center.
Jennie is survived by her children, Mike (Carol) Meek of Albany, Ohio, and Mendy (Richard) Abrahamson of Loveland, Ohio; a foster child, Eydie (Richard) Akers of Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren, Christopher (Tracy) Meek, Cassandra (Kevin) Waller, Michael (Shawnee) Meek, Mick Abrahamson and Kady Abrahamson; three great-grandchildren, Isabel Meek, Robert Walter Meek and Isaac Waller; a half-sister, Pat Alkire Gibbs; and a half-brother, John Alkire, both of Parkersburg.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald D. Meek in 2007; and a brother, Bill Alkire.
A memorial service will be 6:45 p.m. Friday at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens, Ohio.
