Virgil Leo "Jack" Walker, 88, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009, in Roane General Hospital, Spencer.
He was born Saturday, February 5, 1921, at Richardson, a son of the late Fred and Ona Sutphin Walker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Nicholson Walker; four brothers, Hershel, Hollie, Bennie and Burl Walker; one sister, Maxine Burdette.
"Jack" was a retired foreman for Pace Pipeline Co. He was an active church member for over 50 years, teaching Sunday school and leading devotionals. He most recently attended the Cherry Valley Community Church near Spencer. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving with Company C, 586th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Walker of Spencer; son, Frederick Lee Walker of Clendenin; stepsons, David Armentrout of Beckley and Danny Armentrout of Kenna; stepdaughters, Helen Paxton of Dalton, PA and Brenda Scranta of Tunkhannock, PA; two grandchildren and nine step grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Walker Cemetery, Spencer.
Friends may call Friday, May 22 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
