The County Spelling Bee was conducted at Calhoun Middle School, on January 10, 2002. Mrs. Sheri Graham, County
Coordinator and Gordon Rogers, the pronouncer, presided over the bee. Also, in attendance, along with the twelve spellers,
were Tammey Webb, Linda Edwards, and Tony Russell. The winners, Cierra Yoak, Chrissy Lovine, Kayla Hixon, and
Briana Blankenship survived six rounds of spelling. This year's winning words were plainsong and chapel.
Cierra, the overall winner, is an eighth grader and will represent CMS at the Regional Spelling Bee in Charleston on March
23. Chrissy, the runnerup, is in the seventh grade and will also represent CMS at the Regional Spelling Bee. Kayla, the third
place winner, is in the sixth grade and was selected as an alternate. Briana is also a sixth grader and was the fourth place
winner.
