Wanda L. "Granny" Whipkey, 87, of Parkersburg, formerly of Grantsville died
January 19, 2002 in St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg. Born in 1914 at
Nobe, she was the daughter of the late Albert Ross and Ida Mae Church
Whipkey.
She was affectionately known as "Granny" by hundreds of Calhoun High
students who were served up humor and guidance during a several year
stint as manager of "The Store" in Grantsville.
Having grown up attending the Nobe Baptist Church, she enjoyed various
church services held at Eagle Point Nursing Home where she was a patient.
She served as a foster grandmother for 13 years in Calhoun and Wood
Counties, and was a former nurse's aid at Calhoun General Hospital.
Surviving, daughters, Janet Rebecca Smith of Parkersburg and Marilyn
Frances Mills of Brohard; a son, Richard Neil Whipkey of Parkersburg; sister,
Ida Mae Nicholas of Grantsville and six grandchildren, Melissa Nelms,
Jennifer Smith, Mary Elizabeth Smith, Samual Anthony Mills, Clinton Charles
Mills and Chantal Marie Whipkey and six great-grandchildren, David
Almansor, Katlynn Almansor, Rebecca Fraley, Samantha Nelms, Kara Nelms,
and John Langenstein
She was also preceded in death by sisters, Lenna Mae Offutt, Goldie Knight
and Waneta Lydick; brothers, James Henry Whipkey, Albert Ross Whipkey,
George Delbert Whipkey and Delmas Edward Whipkey; grandson, John
Patrick Smith and great granddaughter, Athena Dundus.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Stump Funeral
Home, Grantsville by the Rev. Casey Stinespring. Interment will be in the
Nobe Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday.
