STATE POLICE ACTED PROPERLY IN ROANE SHOOTING

(04/01/2009)
An internal investigation by the West Virginia State Police has determined a trooper's shooting of a Kanawha County man last year in Roane County complied with policy.

The State Police says the review and ruling closes the case.

Stephen Krein, 19, of Clendenin was shot in the head in December while avoiding being arrested, police said.

The shooting incident happened at a store on Left Hand/Mt. Welcome Hill, along US 119 near Walton, Roane County.

Troopers J.J. Price and W.S. Snyder were trying to serve outstanding warrants.

Troopers say Krein was trying to run over them with his vehicle when he was shot.

Krein had a considerable history with State Police.

Last November, he'd hit a trooper with his vehicle during a similar run-in with State Police and had used an all terrain vehicle during an earlier incident to evade arrest.
