Marie Eastman, 90, of Walton, West Virginia, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at her home, after a short illness.
She was born April 3, 1918, at Big Fork, Kanawha County, the oldest child of the late Virgil Alonzo and Chloe Mae Stump Shaffer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Egbert Garland Eastman; daughter, Buena Alice Pickering; son, Darrell Wayne Pickering; grandson, Matthew Eastman; sisters, Dessie Rucker, Irene Shaffer, Virginia Belcher, Helen Wheatley and Edith Seabolt; brothers, Eugene, Hubert, Virgil Jr., Owen and David Shaffer.
Mrs. Eastman was a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She was a former 19 year employee of the Humphrey's Pine Room, Charleston and Fletcher Enamel, Charleston. She enjoyed farming and gardening.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Boyce Griffith of Alum Creek, Peggy Shaw of Winfield, Marsha and Craig Wilson of Scott Depot; sons, John and Mark Eastman both of Walton; sisters, Frances Blanchard of Ohio, Margaret Belcher of Charleston and Lucille Corno of Russell, KY; brother, William Keith Shaffer of Elkview; 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Delbert and Linda Harris, Robin Gunn, Brenda Longfellow, Debbie Eastman, Jeremy and Michelle Eastman, Ginny Smith, Cynthia Larch, Connie Boggs, Lisa Holcomb, Janet Metz, the staff of CAMC Women's and Children's Hospital, General Hospital and Kanawha Hospice.
A funeral service will be held Friday, April 3 at 1:00 p.m. in the Walton Union Church, Walton, with the Rev. Christopher Eastman officiating. Burial will be in the Marmet Cemetery, Marmet. Friends may call Thursday at the church from 6-8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to the funeral.
