Former Calhoun Middle-High School principal Roger Propst was given a two-year contract Thursday to be the superintendent of Calhoun Schools.
Propst has been the county superintendent for the past several months, following the resignation of Jane Lynch.
Propst was hired at an annual salary of $82,000 with a contract for the time period July 1, 2009 Through June 30, 2011. The board voted unanimously.
The school board approved the superintendent's recommendation that a male student be expelled from Calhoun County Schools for the remainder of the school year.
The student is not allowed on school property during this time for any reason with the exception of the Alternative Learning Center.
The board approved the transfer of Shirley Hupp and approved a reduction in force, which included Gina Cano-Stump, Kyre Minney,
Melissa Nelson, and Rachel Meeks.
"The four teachers positions were eliminated because their funding
source is ending," said Propst.
In one case a senior teacher "bumped" a junior (seniority)
after her position lost funding.
None of the positions were state "formula" positions requiring the board to reduce them to stay under the allocated number of positions based on enrollment.
"All the affected teachers were aware this action would come at the end of the year," Propst said, "We are hopeful they will be able
to land in other posted vacancies now and possibly prior to school beginning in the Fall."
