Last night, the Calhoun Board of Education heard about the five-year strategic plan for Calhoun Middle-High School.

Cain explained the primary goals of the committee, which includes creating a positive relationship between all the stakeholders, improving academic achievement in writing, reading and math, and to increase the high school graduation rate and reduce middle school retentions.
Another primary goal is to increase the use of 21st Century technologies. "We've been hanging on by the skin of our teeth with graduation rates," Cain said, referring to No Child Left Behind criteria.

"I think everyone has learned the earlier we start many of the programs, the better the results," he said.
Members of the LSIC spoke about innovations with summer school, tutoring programs, a new alternative learning program for 7th and 8th graders, Respect and Protect, sports and exercise programs for individuals and teams.
