Bernard H. Stonestreet, 89, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Friday, March 20, 2009, in the Miletree Center, Spencer.
He was born July 11, 1919, at Triplett, Braxton County, a son of the late Grover Butler and Iva Maude Hawkins Stonestreet. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nettie Stonestreet; second wife, Orpha Stonestreet; brothers, Eugene, Clayton and Berkley Stonestreet.
Mr. Stonestreet was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a glider pilot with the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division. He began his career in oil and gas production in 1939. In 1958, he and two of his brothers formed the Stonestreet Lands Co. In the late 1960's, he started the Stonestreet Charolais Ranch, Braxton County, which he operated until his retirement in 1992. He was a past president of the W.Va. Charolais Association. He was also, a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Chapel.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda Knight Jernigan of Spencer; sons, Larry V. Stonestreet of Spencer and Bernard Leon Stonestreet of Melbourne, FL; brothers, Denzil Stonestreet of Cross Lanes and Vance Stonestreet of Spencer; sisters, Eunice Stonestreet of Shaker Heights, OH and Mary Louise Wine of Dunbar; three grandchildren, Nathan Stonestreet of Crofton, MD, Anna Stonestreet Smith of Alexandria, VA and Laura Knight of Charlotte, NC; one great granddaughter, Lauren Stonestreet of Spencer.
A funeral service will be held Monday, March 23 at 11:00 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Randall L. "Randy" Whited officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.
Friends may call Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
