Darkis Gay Jarvis Murphy, 90, of Barlow, Ohio, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at Marietta Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born on Nov. 29, 1918, in Calhoun County, W.Va., a daughter of the late-Floyd Jarvis and Nancy McLaughlin Jarvis. Darkis Gay married Joseph Clem Murphy, Sept. 7, 1945, in Spencer, W.Va.
She cherished her family and enjoyed cooking, gardening, collecting dolls and loved her dogs, cats and all her animals. She attended Decatur Chapel Church and Lighthouse Baptist Church in Barlow, before her illness.
Darkis Gay is survived by one daughter, Mable Carpenter of Marietta; one brother, Fred Truman of Mansfield, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Lou Truman.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ivan; a daughter, Rosilee; five sisters; and four brothers.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in Belpre, with Pastor Charles Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Barlow Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
