The Creston auction will be held Saturday, March 7 starting at
6 P. M. at the Creston Community Building. There will be lots of good things, cheese, pepperoni, double yolk eggs, etc. Come and swap yarns and have a fun evening.
Rev. Carlos Nutter filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church and served Holy Communion.
Eva G. Pennington was a patient in a Parkersburg hospital but was on the mend and scheduled to come home Sunday.
A number of local residents attended the wrestling tournament in Huntington.
The weather got warmer, Easter flowers came up with some even blooming and then Saturday evening it snowed again. A big snow was scheduled for the so-called global warming rally in Washington, Dee Cee.
There was a record crowd at the IOGA (Independent Oil & Gas Association) meeting down at the Mouth of the Elk. The Brooksville contingent, Mark & Winnie said they went to the dog races although some claimed they got lost and instead of going down I-64 they went west on US 60.
There was lots of discussion over the Marcellus shale and the spectacular wells that have been drilled. There has been quite a lot of talk about a long shut in this summer as well as the consequences of natural gas falling to $3/MCF at the wellhead.
The new national policy of "change that we can believe in" has new tax rules that eliminate the present rules that encourage drilling oil & gas wells and some of the folks that had been busy getting leases for Cabot & Chesapeake are now working full bore on wind mills that have big tax breaks. Of course, now that we have "change" fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal are "bad".
Columbia Gas Transmission, which is part of Nisource, announced that they would lay off a substantial number of employees in West Virginia. Columbia operates natural gas storage fields, transmission lines, compressor stations, etc.
Chesapeake announced that only 40 employees would be left in their Charleston office with the remainder shipped off to Oklahoma City or laid off. Aubrey McClendon, the chief honcho and a big buddy of the Big Boss blamed the Tawney lawsuit in Roane County for all their problems. Of course when Chesapeake purchased CNR the suit was already in progress and $800 million was put aside out of the multi billion-dollar deal to cover the costs. The suit was settled for less than $400 million. While 215 employees were let go there was no mention of the contract employees or their status. It has been obvious that Chesapeake is continuing to lease and drill in the area. The company also started paying 1/8th royalties on the wells that they formerly paid as flat rate.
The price of local Penn grade crude rose to $39.25/bbl.
The new federal energy tax has caused quite a bit of concern because electric and heating bills will go up as will the price of motor fuel. This new tax is in the spirit of "man made global warming" in spite of a cooling trend, etc.
A Creston newsreader indicated that the columnist was not kind to the new president and said nothing good about him. He is an eloquent talker and some swoon when he talks. However, this week he issued a proclamation that eliminates the protection health care workers have that protects those with morals from being forced to perform abortions, practice euthanasia, etc. Many have listened to Barry's preacher and, to say the least such is scary. The current series of Sunday school lessons address a nation that fell away from God. Those in power have banished God and the Great Obombo's new tax laws will penalize large gifts to churches & charity. The actions taken in Washington will make the economic conditions worse and the Big Eared one actually said that matters will get much worse. Terrorists are now being turned loose and those who protected us from terror attacks are now being threatened with court action. The following verses from Isaiah 20:5 & 6 seem appropriate, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil: that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, & sweet for bitter!
"Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes and prudent in their own sight."
Anna Engelke & Adam Yates were visiting in Baltimore and dined at a Korean restaurant on kimchee.
