Dr. William R. Porter, II, 90, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, after an extended illness.
He was born July 11, 1918, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late William Reid and Bertha Koldwey Porter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Fitzgerald Porter.
Dr. Porter was an Army veteran of World War II and earned his D.V.M. at Texas A& M University, College Station, Texas. He loved and appreciated animals both large and small.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, William Reid and Susan Porter, III of Spencer; four grandchildren, Josh Porter of Vincent, OH, Elizabeth Metheney of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; Eleanor and Shelly Porter of Spencer; one great grandson, Isaiah Metheney.
A service was held Saturday, February 21 at 1:30 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Fr. Tom Chacko and the Rev. Fr. David Schmitt officiating.
