(4 p.m. Sunday) Ada Hosey, 78, who lives by herself on Big Root Road,
called 911 to
report her house was on fire. She was able to get to a porch, where
she was met by
grandson Steve Hosey. She was uninjured, according to a family
spokesperson. Mrs.
Hosey, who suffers from emphysema, told her family the fire started
around her
oxygen generator.
The Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department quickly brought the blaze
under control,
although there was extensive fire damage to the living room area, with
heat, smoke
and water damage to much of the house. "It was a really hot fire,"
commented a
fireman.
Fireman Keith Smith reported several oxygen tanks in the dwelling,
none of which
exploded. "The oxygen could have caused some real problems," he
said.
The Arnoldsburg VFD was also summoned for a back-up tanker, but their
response
was canceled. Calhoun EMS also went to the scene.
Mrs. Hosey, widow of the late Joe Hosey, has lived in the house for
about two years,
one mile off State Route 5.
