Cabell Huntington Hospital announced yesterday that it is eliminating forty positions to cut costs.
The jobs are supervisor and management positions, none involved in direct patient care.
CHH President and CEO Brent Marsteller said the move is in response to unstable financial markets, less reimbursement for health care and rising costs.
Cabell Huntington has provided $45 million in uncompensated and charity care to patients in 2008, with that number increasing due to the poor economy.
Marsteller also pointed to increasing costs for supplies and medicine, along with the increased cost of employee benefits.
