West Virginians need to prepare for a new area code.
Telephone companies say residents and businesses should re-program fax machines, computer modems, and other equipment and services to dial the area code and seven-digit phone number before February 28.
That's when the state's new 681 area code goes into service for new telephone customers.
Those with the existing 304 area code will keep it, but it must be dialed, along with the 7 digit phone number. All calls will require 10 digits, including those within your community.
