West Virginia's Division of Natural Resources says that fall turkey hunters bagged fewer birds this year.
They say the birds were harder to find this fall because of poor reproduction in the spring and abundant food sources in the fall allowed turkeys to wander over a larger area.
The fall kill was just 1,128 birds, or 25 percent fewer than last fall's season kill of 1,511.
DNR had predicted a 15 percent decline.
