| French Gay Harper, 84, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008, in Roane General Hospital, Spencer.
He was born May 22, 1924, at Walton, a son of the late James Harrison and Della L. Holbert Harper.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Harper in 2001; brothers, Harry Harvey Harper, Glenville Harper, James Delmar Harper, three infant brothers, three infant sisters, a nephew, Bruce Harper and a niece Helen Taylor.
French attended the Gospel Truth Church, Spencer. He enjoyed boxing, hunting and the company of family and friends.
Survivors include one brother, Dewey Harper of Clendenin; four nephews; 12 nieces; aunt, Beulah Collins of Walton; stepdaughter, Dorothy Spencer of Canton, OH; 7 step grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, Dec. 14 at 1:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor Ora Holbert officiating. Burial will be in the Rocky Branch Cemetery, Walton.
Friends may call Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
