Steel making was once West Virginia's largest employer, most of the big operations are now globalized or down-sized.
Now, a small steel-coating company in Wheeling is laying off workers for the first time in its 22-year history.
Rich Carter, president of Wheeling-Nisshin Inc., confirmed Wednesday that 90 of the plant's 175 employees will be laid off starting January 4.
Carter said decisions, after that date, will be made week-by-week.
The layoffs are the result of slow demand.
