HUNTINGTON MEN TARGETS IN SHOOTINGS - Huntington police are investigating an early Wednesday morning shooting that left one man dead and the other injured.
Chief Skip Holbrook says police got a call about shots fired and when officers arrived they found a victim on the front porch of a residence, shot in the leg.
The men appeared to be targets of a third party.
"While they were rendering aid to him, another 911 caller said they had seen an additional black male fleeing south from the scene at the time of the shooting," Holbrook said.
That second victim was found just two blocks away, lying in an alley. He was still alive when officers arrived, but he died a short time later.
No suspects have been taken into custody.
Holbrook says investigators are following some leads. "At least one of the people involved is in our intelligence base for drug activity. So that's the angle we're pursuing right now, but we're not just tunneling in on that," he said.
Holbrook said they got several 911 calls from witnesses reporting the shootings.
He says information like that can be key in solving a crime. "It's a promising step because we're never going to be able to control this or eradicate it without the help from the public we serve," he concluded.
DRIVER STABBED BECAUSE HE WOULDN'T GO TO STRIP CLUB - Lawrence County, Ohio, Sheriff says a Huntington cab driver was robbed and stabbed early Wednesday morning about 2 a.m.
The Sheriff says Corky Asbury was robbed and cut on the neck after he refused to take his passenger to a strip club along Route 60 in Cabell County.
His passenger fled the scene.
