The third 2008-2009 Saturday Fun and Learning Day sponsored by Heads Up, GEAR UP and the Parent-Educator Resource Center was held Saturday, November 15th at Calhoun Middle-High School with breakfast served to all participants.
While their children were busy with recreational activities, the parents received information about the AmberView Program from Susan Rodriguez with the West Virginia High Tech Consortium.
Parents register their children for the AmberView program
By participating in the AmberView program, a child's current picture and physical description can be broadcast to law enforcement, news media, and citizens within minutes of an official Amber Alert. Several children were registered at Saturday's event.
When reunited, the parents and children completed several Thanksgiving crafts together.
There was over 225 people in attendance on Saturday with the following parents winning door prizes: Linda Husk, Becky Keener Ada Overbaugh, and Tim Somerville, $20 gift certificates from the Pit Stop donated by Heads Up; Steven Knotts won a gift certificate from the Sugar Shack; and Connie Metheney won a desk lamp donated by GEAR UP.
The next Saturday Fun and Learning Day will be December 6th with a visit from Santa. A Christmas dinner will be catered by the Middle School Athletic Boosters.
