MOBILE HOMES DESTROYED IN ROANE FIRE

(10/27/2008)
Firemen had problems with strong winds pushing the flames from an old house trailer, causing two other mobile homes near Amma to burn.

Four fire departments responded to the rural blaze.

William and Kate Whittaker, The owners of one of the mobile homes, returned to find their dwelling on fire.

They had been to court seeking an injunction against some of their neighbors and implied the fire was not an accident.

WCHS-TV said firefighters initial impression was that a bulb heating a box where cats lived caused the blaze.

Firefighters rescued three kittens from the spreading inferno, but wind and radiant heat overwhelmed their efforts to save the buildings, reported the TV station. The State Police and state fire marshal are investigating.
