Police are searching for two suspects after a Charleston man was found dead in an SUV on the West Side early Wednesday morning.
Elwood Pete Pegram, 38, was shot and killed at about 3:30 a.m. on Stockton Street, according to Sgt. Aaron James of the Charleston Police Department.
Police found Pegram in an SUV that was turned on its side near the intersection, the vehicle had crashed into a parked car.
Police think Pegram's vehicle was sitting still when the shooting started.
"We figure he probably got shot, and then hit the gas," they said.
He was shot twice in the head and once in the back.
"The vehicle had numerous holes in it as well," authorities said.
After gunshots were fired, two black males were seen running east in an alley near the area, James said. One was wearing a brown jacket or sweatshirt and had a limp.
