Regional residents held a first community meeting
at Arnoldsburg to protest the construction of a
high-voltage line through Calhoun and regional counties
By Bob Weaver
A public meeting was held Friday in Arnoldsburg regarding a multi-billion dollar, giant tower, high voltage line that will be crossing Calhoun and the region.
Calhoun and regional citizens heard several presentations about the impact of the line.
Questions have been raised regarding the impact of the widened right-of-way with the placement of giant transmission towers.
Others expressed concern about West Virginia bearing the environmental burden for producing coal-produced electricity for the northeast grid. State consumers would assume part of the cost.
In 2006 the Hur Herald had an article saying it was likely a mega-tower 765 kilovolt electric transmission line would cut across Calhoun County.
While the story, facts and status have changed in the past two years, the line is scheduled to come through a number of WV counties, from the John Amos power plant in Putnam County to Maryland.
