Glenville, WV - Classical guitarist Chris Anderson will present a concert at the Glenville State College Fine Arts Auditorium on Friday, October 17 at 7:00 pm.
"Chris Anderson is a tremendous talent. We are very pleased that he will be performing at Glenville State College and give our students, faculty, staff and the public the opportunity to experience the beautiful music of the classical guitar," said Lloyd Bone, GSC Assistant Professor of Music and Fine Arts Department Chair.
Anderson of Hagerstown, Maryland, is a performing artist who regularly appears at music venues throughout the mid-Atlantic region. While attending Bethany College near Wheeling, West Virginia, Anderson became a passionate admirer of the music of J.S. Bach which led to his studies in classical guitar. After graduating with a major in history and a minor in music, he pursued additional undergraduate studies in guitar performance at the new guitar department of Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Winchester, Virginia.
He went on to serve as guitar instructor at Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, West Virginia where he established the school's first degree program in guitar studies. Anderson spent four years studying privately with Franco Platino and Ana Vidovic. He also participated as a performing student at dozens of masterclasses taught by twenty-four of the world's most respected guitarists.
Currently Anderson confines his musical activities to concert performances, recording, arranging music for guitar, and writing about various topics related to his instrument.
Anderson says he is looking forward to his performance at Glenville State College. "As someone who benefited greatly from spending ten years of my life studying and teaching at small West Virginia colleges, I have been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to visit the campus of Glenville State College. I hope everyone will accept my invitation to attend my concert and take the opportunity afterwards to say hi and ask some questions."
Anderson's performance at GSC will include music by Bach, Falla, Albeniz, and others. The concert is free and open to the public.
