George Lewis King, 77, of Parkersburg, died December 10, 2001, at St.
Joseph's Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 10, 1924, in Grantsville, a son of the late Emmons Theodore
and Katherine Hannah Parry King. He was retired from DuPont. He was a
member of the First Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 15. He was a
U.S. Army World War II veteran, serving in the 501st regiment, 101 Airborne
Division. He became a Prisoner Of War after being captured on D-Day June 6,
1944, in the Normandy Invasion at 19 years of age. He was a Prisoner Of War
for almost a year before escaping in May of 1945.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, R. Imogene King; one daughter,
Linda Lee Ingham and her husband, Barry of Parkersburg; two sons, G. Lewis
King of Parkersburg and Steven P. King and his wife, Pat of Charlotte, N.C.; one
granddaughter, Jill Martinez of Marietta; one grandson, Bradley Ingham of
Morgantown; one great-grandson, Matthew Martinez of Marietta; friends, Don
and Mercedes Kesterson of Parkersburg, Bill Traugh of Marietta and Charlotte
Traugh of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home of Parkersburg.
Reverend James Kinsler will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery North.
Military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post 15.
Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
