WV RESIDENTS WILL GET VISION CHECKED FOR DRIVER'S LICENSE

(10/08/2008)
A vision test is a new requirement for West Virginia drivers, starting January 2.

Drivers who apply to get or renew their driver's licenses must have their eyesight checked.

To pass the vision screening, applicants must have at least 20/40 eyesight in their best eye, with or without corrective lenses.

The screening involves either reading lines of letters or numbers in the DMV office, or providing a completed vision report form signed by a licensed optometrist.

The Division of Motor Vehicles recommends that applicants see an eye care professional first if they have any doubts about their eyesight.

West Virginia joins 40 other states with vision screening.
