The Calhoun boys cross country team finished 13th in an extremely strong Charleston Catholic Invitational Wednesday at Camp Virgil Tait in Sissonville.
Justin Gerwig led the CHS runners with a time of 19:18 and a 33rd place finish.
Calhoun had a total of 336 points to finish a mere seven points behind 12th-place Capital, a Class AAA school. Nine time defending Class AA-A champion Ravenswood won the meet followed by Class AAA power Winfield. Overall six of the team finishing ahead of the Red Devils was Class AAA schools. Class AAA schools Woodrow Wilson and Nicholas County finished behind the Red Devils in the 27-team meet.
The meet drew 150 runners.
Backing Gerwig for the Red Devils were Cai Clothier (20:10, 56th place), Zach Hanshaw (20:36, 69th place), Josh Parsons (21:00, 76th place) and Anthony Richards (24:11, 102nd place).
On the girls side Calhoun did not have a complete team with only three members running.
Anna Sampson led the way for Calhoun with a time of 23:43 for 29th place.
Athena Wagoner was next for Calhoun with 32:01 for 121st place. Maria Kisner was 124th with a time of 32:27.
On the middle school side Monica Heiney had a time of 18:12 for 118th place while William Baker led the Calhoun boys with a time of 15:56 for 101st place. Hunter Thomas was next with a time of 19:08 for 141st. He was followed by David Overbay (19:19 for 142nd) and Cody Parsons (22:09 for 152nd).
Calhoun returns to action today in the West Virginia Insurance Classic at North Bend State Park. |
