POWERLINE RALLY SET FOR ARNOLDSBURG
Two counties in Pennsylvania have successfully kept the Trans- Allegheny power line from coming through their communities.
Residents in Monongalia County and several other counties have been fighting for months to keep the 500-kilovolt transmission line from coming through their backyards.
But the West Virginia Public Service Commission approved the $1 billion plan.
Opponents here are outraged by this week's deal between Allegheny and Pennsylvania leaders.
"The very fact the trail has given up shows us that we were right all along," said Halleck Community Association President Don Corwin, "and number two it's just yet another example of West Virginia getting dumped on from out of state interests for out of state benefit."
Corwin said he hopes Governor Joe Manchin and other West Virginia leaders will suspend their approval and call for a new hearing.
The Calhoun community will have what organizers describe as an informational meeting about the proposed mega-power line set to cross the county.
The rally date is October 17th at the Arnoldsburg Community Building, starting at 7 p.m.
There will be guest speakers, information about the line, a petition to sign opposing the line, and free
entertainment.
The rally will feature some bluegrass music with local favorite John Truman, plus some rock 'n roll music.
Donations will
be taken happily to defray expenses.
Organizers say there are a number of significant issues related to the project, not the least being increased emission of pollutants in West Virginia.
