As the domestic financial markets churn in turmoil and the government considers federal action to bail out Wall Street at the expense of Main Street, Anne Barth, the Democratic nominee for the Second Congressional District, released the following statement today:
"We must address this crisis - but a quick solution is not always the right solution."
"We must recognize the path that led us here - a path of corporate greed, failed fiscal and economic policy, and a lack of accountability and oversight. This is a recurring pattern for George Bush and Shelley Moore Capito.
"Any bailout plan must include key provisions to limit taxpayer sacrifice, hold investors and corporations accountable for their abusive business practices, restore oversight and accountability, and address other underlying problems so that America doesn't find itself back in this predicament.
"American families and small businesses should not have to pay for the sins of Wall Street."
"I also encourage the voters of the Second Congressional District to consider who has put us in this situation and who can chart us in a new direction."
Just as those who bet and lost on Wall Street shouldn't be rewarded with golden parachutes, those politicians who bet and lost on the failed Bush policies shouldn't be rewarded with another two years in office."
