A thief entered a Rush Run area residence off Rt. 16 south of Arnoldsburg yesterday afternoon, reportedly escaping with $300 cash.

Reports said the owner and his wife were in their garden digging potatoes when a male subject entered the house, attempting to pry open a gun cabinet and wrapping several cameras in a blanket.

The subject ran out the back door and went into the woods.

The incident is one of what appears to be a significant crime spree in the county involving breaking and enterings, the theft of ATVs and guns and other property.

The Grantsville detachment of the State Police have declined to comment on the spree or provide public information regarding reports, complaints or incidents about property crimes, essentially because they are under "active investigation."

The Herald has attempted to obtain a brief description of the complaints, the date of occurrence, what was stolen and the general area of the incident.

The Herald, while acknowledging exceptions, has maintained that the State Police have an obligation to provide public information to the Calhoun community regarding crimes committed.
