The Clay County Golden Delicious Festival is celebrating its 35th Anniversary this year.
The festival celebrates the heritage of the Golden Delicious apple first discovered in the Bomont area of Clay County.
The apple has since found fame all over the world as the most versatile apple. Taking into account the many families that have taken part in this festival celebration over the years, the festival theme for 2008 has been selected as "A Family Tradition".
The festival continues through Sunday.
"The Dobro Champion of Birch River" - Chris Stockwell along with singer-songwriter Jody Herndon will perform at 4 p.m. today.
The festival offers family fun including amusement rides, a grand parade, continuous musical entertainment, art auction, antique car show, motorcycle show, chili cook-off, salsa contest, baking contests, apple butter making, quilt show, horse-shoe contest, kids contests, antique engine show, karaoke contest, children's choirs, pancake breakfast, magic-juggling show, fireworks, and the "Mo Truman" tribute concert.
