Calhoun trounces Doddridge

On Monday evening the Calhoun Junior Varsity team hit the road for the first time this year traveling to Doddridge County High School's Cline Stansberry Field to take on the Bulldog JV's.
The Red Devil team had opened the 2008 season with two shutout victories at Mt. Zion over Gilmer 62-0 and Ritchie County 50-0.
The Red Devils used the big play to down the Bulldogs by a score of 30-0, running their three game totals to 142 points scored, and 0 allowed.
Calhoun scored four times on plays of 65 yards or more. Corey Metz opened the scoring by galloping through the middle of the Rebel line and outrunning the secondary on his way to a 66 yard touchdown and a 6-0 Red Devil lead; the extra point try was stopped.
A few plays later, Calhoun defensive end Caden Arnold stepped in front of a Bulldog pass at the Red Devil 21 yard line and returned it 79 yards for a touchdown and a 12-0 lead.
The two-point conversion was good and the lead went to 14-0.
Late in the 1st half Red Devil tailback Daniel Sims broke loose around the left side and did not look back,
taking the ball 65 yards for the touchdown; the two-point conversion was good and Calhoun led at half, 22-0.
The Red Devil shutout streak was in serious jeopardy in the 4th quarter as Doddridge drove to the Calhoun 6 inch line before being thrown back to the two on 3rd down and stopped inches short on 4th.
Two plays later Derrenger Fluharty broke through the line and ran 97 yards for the touchdown, the two-point conversion was good and the Red Devils had shutout their 3rd consecutive opponent.
Calhoun's next JV game will be at Mt. Zion on Monday September 22nd at 6:00 p.m. against Parkersburg Catholic. |
