Calhoun Middle School traveled to Roane County last Thursday to take on the Yellow Jackets of Spencer Middle School, getting trounced 34-0.

After Calhoun's Cody Starcher's opening kick-off, Spencer moved the ball down the field and scored. The 2-pt. conversion attempt failed, making the score 6-0.

Spencer then kicked-off to Calhoun, caught by Jared Haught on the 27 yard line. Haught was able to run to about the 40 for a gain of about 13 yards.

Calhoun was never able to get anything going and was forced to punt.

On the Jackets next series of offense, the Devils defense was able to hold them and Calhoun took over on downs.

Things started to look hopeful for the Red Devils when Jared Haught made a 50 yard run to get the ball inside the 10 on about the 4 yard line, but the Devils fumbled the ball and it was recovered by the Yellow Jackets.

The Jackets took over and once again scored during their offensive series. The 2-point conversion was good and the score was 14-0.

Despite their efforts, the Red Devils were unable to score and the Devil defense wasn't able to stop the Jackets.

The score at the end of the first half was 22-0.

As the second half of play resumed, the ball game was pretty much a repeat of the first half. The Jackets held Calhoun to just 5 first downs in the ballgame.

Spencer was able to score two more times before the end of the game, bringing the final score to 34-0.

Calhoun's offense was led by Jared Haught with 99 yards rushing. Calhoun's defense was led by Trent Phillips with 7 tackles.

Calhoun Middle School will travel to Parkersburg Catholic for their next game on Thursday, Sept 18th. The game will be played at Parkerburg Catholic High School beginning at 5 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs.

The middle school was originally scheduled to play Gilmer County on Tuesday, Sept 16, however Gilmer did not have enough players for a team.
