Calhoun Middle school PTO held its first meeting September 4 to organize and set goals for the 2008-2009 school year. Officers elected were, president, Stella Tackett and secretary/reporter Kathy Barr. Faculty representatives for the school year are Andy Bremar, Kyre Minney and Leah Offutt.
No treasurer was elected, as there will be no CMS PTO fundraisers this school year. It was decided the organization would focus its first year on increasing parent involvement. Parents are asked to invest their time, not their money.
CMS faculty and staff will be surveyed to find out where they feel they could use extra help.
During the meeting all CMS faculty attending agreed they need parents that are willing to read to and be read to by students who may need some special attention in that area.
Principal Karen Kirby suggested the front of the school needed some added color and asked if the newly formed PTO would be willing to work on the project.
The PTO will be collecting bulbs for the next two weeks. You can drop off bulbs you would like to donate at the school. Teacher Lori Cunningham, known for her green thumb suggested mums would be nice for the fall. Since now is a good time to split mums, you might want to share some with the school.
The next CMS PTO meeting will be Thursday, October 2 at 5:30 p.m.
CMS parents who have time during school hours, after school or weekends are encouraged to contact the CMS PTO by email at writinglms@yahoo.com
