CRESTON NEWS

(09/09/2008)
The news in Creston was the arson fire of the old Creston store and the damage to a number of other structures. The firemen did a marvelous job fighting the fire which saved nearby residences. The folks who came home from the drive in movie and woke folks up to move vehicles, etc. saved lives and homes. The fire marshal was in Creston with local law enforcement officials and the local fire chief and ruled arson and posted a $2,500.00 reward for the arrest and conviction of the culprits. In addition to the loss of the building it was filled with historic books, pictures, furniture, tools, etc, all of which are now lost forever.

The price of local Penn grade crude oil fell to $99.50/bbl. It would seem that the mere presence of a candidate on the national scene with oilfield experience (Gov. Palin's husband works on the Alaska north slope and she oversaw the state's involvement in royalties, etc.), took the wind out of the politicians' high prices and alternatives scares. Many local residents marvel at the continued enthusiasm over Mrs. Palin's pick as Vice President with many, many staunch Democrats solidly in her camp. At this point the price of crude has fallen about $40/bbl from the top price not so long back. Drill here and drill now has already had a positive impact for local residents.
