NEWBORN DELIVERED IN CALHOUN AMBULANCE - "It Is Not A Frequent Event"

(12/05/2001)
It happens every now and then, the delivery of a newborn in a Calhoun EMS ambulance. "The new boy is eight pounds and twelve ounces," said EMS worker Mike Little.

The new baby was born to Angie Jones, who started having contractions at Country Lanes at Mount Zion.

"He was born along U.S. 33-119 going to Roane General early yesterday morning," which was about 3 a.m. Tuesday. "It went easy, a good delivery," said Little, with the infant and mother proceeding to the hospital.

Mother and child were released from the hospital to return home later in the day. Janet Starcher and Michelle Buck were also in attendance for the delivery.

Little said it had been eight to ten years since a baby had been born in a local EMS ambulance. "It is not a frequent thing," concluded Little.
