Adda Loyse Newell, 87, formerly of Long Bottom, Pleasant Hill,
Athens and The Plains, Ohio, died December 2, 2001, at Rock Springs
Rehabilitation Center, Pomeroy, Ohio.
She was born Aug. 13, 1914, in Looneyville, W.Va., a daughter of the late James
W. and Jerushia Irene Wells Stalnaker. She attended school at Long Bottom,
Ohio, and was formerly employed at East Elementary School and Ohio University
in Athens, Ohio. She was member of the First Christian Church, Athens.
Survivors include four daughters, Lois Ashcraft-Loris of South Carolina, Joyce
Dailey and her husband Bob of The Plains, Barbara Lindsey and her husband
David of Pickerington, Ohio, and Carolyn Burchfield and her husband Max of
Chapin, S.C.; two sons, Royce Newell and his wife Lucille of Reedsville, Ohio,
and Harold Newell and his wife Betty of Chester, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; and one brother, Guy Stalnaker and his wife Evie of Akron,
Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Blaine, in 1988; two grandchildren;
three sisters, Evelyn Sedgwick, Edith Curtis and Gertrude Tracy; and three
brothers, Hubert, James and William Stalnaker.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home,
Athens, Ohio, Dr. James Grooms officiating. Burial in Reedsville, Ohio, Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 p,m. Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 24 W. State
St., Athens, Ohio.
