JACKSON COUNTY FOOD COMPANY CLOSING - 100 Losing Jobs

(08/25/2008)
A wholesale food distribution center in Jackson County that employs more than 100 people is closing.

Nashville-based COI Foodservice Distribution told employees about the closing Friday morning.

The company has been in operation for a number of years in Jackson County.

COI serves businesses such as Applebee's, Shoney's and Ryan's restaurants. They declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July to reorganize.

In a filing with the bankruptcy, COI cited rising fuel costs and the loss of several customers for their financial difficulties.

Employees at the company distribution center in Tifton, Georgia, were informed last Friday that their facility would be closed by mid-October.

About 700 workers could be losing their jobs.
