Edsel Vanhorn, 72, of Tuscumbia, Alabama, died Friday, August 15, 2008. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2008, at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel, with burial to follow at Cherokee Memorial Park. Chris Kemp and Gary Puryear will officiate.
He was a native of Shock, West Virginia. He retired as plant manager of Robbins Tire and owner-operator of Big V Tree Service. He was a member of Florence Boulevard Church of Christ.
He was a loving Christian husband, father and grandfather. He had served the church as both a deacon and elder. He had a great work ethic and instilled strong family values. He had a great way of making all that knew him feel better. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Wilda Ruth Vanhorn; daughter, Lydia Ruth Vanhorn; grandson, Jonathan Vanhorn; and brother, Ernest Vanhorn.
Mr. Vanhorn is survived by his sons, Edward Allen Vanhorn (Donella), of Garretsville, Ohio, Kenneth Edsel Vanhorn (Robin), of Tuscumbia and Michael Lynn Vanhorn (Amy), of Tuscumbia; daughter, Brenda Jean Vanhorn Hone (Ricky), of Tuscumbia; brother, Hensel James Vanhorn, of Grantsville, W.Va.; sister, Delma Vanhorn Thompson, Lima, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, is directing.
