Officials are painting a rather rosy picture, with West Virginia's jobless rate dropping to 4.2 percent.
The unemployment rate fell over one percent in July from a 5.5 percent rate in June.
WorkForce said the goods-producing sector posted employment gains in natural resources, mining and construction, while manufacturing lost 300 jobs.
Other losses in the service-providing sector included 300 jobs in educational and health services, 400 jobs in trade, transportation and utilities.
Service industry jobs related to leisure and hospitality added 800 jobs.
