Stanton A. Harris, 65, of Spencer, West Virginia, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2008, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born June 28, 1943, at Spencer, a son of the late Corlis Willard and Justine Spencer Harris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Corlis Willard Harris, Jr.
Stanton was the foreman for Rouzer Oil Company, Spencer. He loved playing golf and scored nine holes-in-one. He was a former member of the Roane County Country Club and the Cherry Hill Country Club. He was an Army veteran of the Viet Nam War. Also, he was a 1962 graduate of Spencer High School and a member of the Spencer Chapter Order of DeMolay.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sue Westfall Harris, of Spencer; sons, Rodney Harris and his wife, Tammy of Marietta, OH, and Wesley Craig Harris of Newport News, VA; brother, Wayne Harris of Spencer; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Harris and Peggy Harris both of Spencer; two granddaughters, Jessica and Jillian Lyons; one great grandson, Hunter Klein; three nieces, one nephew, one uncle and six aunts.
In remembrance and celebration of Stanton's life, friends and family will gather with the Rev. Randall L. "Randy" Whited and the Rev. Michael F. "Mike" King at the Clover Community Church at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17. Burial will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover.
Those who wish to visit with family and friends may begin gathering at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Following the service, everyone is welcome to stay for refreshments that will be served in the fellowship room of the church.
