A Calhoun County man was arrested by the Spencer Police Department for cashing a phony check he received as part of an e-mail scam.
Patrolman John Caldwell said Theodore G. Tucker, 31, of Arnoldsburg deposited a check for $4,205 in the Poca Valley Bank after receiving the check through an e-mail solicitation.
Caldwell said the counterfeit check was part of an Internet scam and Tucker was supposed to return $1,250 to the company, which he never did.
After making the deposit, Tucker allegedly made four withdrawals totaling $3,050.
Tucker was arrested Thursday and charged with grand larceny, uttering and three counts each of obtaining property by false pretenses and petit larceny.
He was arraigned by Roane Magistrate Denver Gandee Jr. and lodged in the regional jail in lieu of bond while awaiting a hearing.
